Four major defense companies have moved to formalize a joint proposal aimed at developing the combat system for the future SSN AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine program. The collaboration is intended to deliver a shared command and control solution for Australia and the United Kingdom while maintaining alignment with allied submarine operations.

As reported by industry sources, the companies have agreed to work together under a newly signed memorandum of understanding. The effort focuses on designing a tri-national combat system that builds on an existing submarine control architecture already fielded with allied navies. By using a proven foundation, the partners aim to reduce technical risk and accelerate development timelines.

The proposal places significant emphasis on national sovereignty and industrial participation. Reports indicate that the plan includes expanded involvement of the Australian industry in system design, integration, and long-term support. Skills development and technology transfer across partner nations are also central elements of the concept, supporting workforce growth and domestic capability.

The initiative sits within the broader AUKUS defense framework, which seeks deeper military and industrial cooperation between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The SSN AUKUS submarine is a flagship element of this effort, alongside a range of advanced defense technology programs.

Industry reporting notes that the combat system proposal remains subject to negotiation and approval by government authorities. If adopted, the approach would aim to deliver an interoperable and adaptable system while preserving national control and supporting long-term regional security objectives in the Indo-Pacific.
