Lithuanian startup Unmanned Defense Systems makes military drones that have already seen combat use. The Vilnius company raised over €4.2 million after starting operations in 2022.
The drone maker produces two main aircraft types. FORECASTER handles reconnaissance and intelligence gathering across battlefield zones. AVENGER 5 carries weapons for long-range precision attacks on enemy positions.
According to a recent publication, UDS developed SwarmC2 software to control multiple drones from a single operator station. The program links with military command systems already used by NATO forces, like SitaWare and ATAK. Controllers can redirect missions mid-flight as battlefield situations change.
The drones operate without GPS when enemies jam satellite signals. Communication networks automatically repair themselves if parts get damaged or destroyed. Simple controls mean soldiers learn the system faster than complicated legacy equipment.
Real combat experience separates UDS from competitors still testing prototypes. Ukrainian and other European forces have used these drones in actual fighting. This battlefield validation attracts military buyers who want proven technology instead of untested concepts.
UDS keeps production costs low compared to traditional defense contractors. Armies can buy more drones for the same budget. Fast manufacturing means forces receive equipment in months rather than years.
Drone warfare keeps expanding as militaries replace piloted aircraft for dangerous missions. UDS carved out space in this growing market by shipping working products quickly. The company focuses on practical military needs rather than experimental features.
Funding goes toward building more production capacity. European defense orders are climbing as countries rebuild military capabilities. UDS plans to scale manufacturing to meet increasing demand from the national armed forces.
